Top 10 Albums
I did one of these 3 or 4 months ago and those spots had been pretty set in stone for a few years but over the past few months my perspective of music has changed immensely and so here is the revised list o’ my top ten albumers weeooeop
1. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

2. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

3. Beastie Boys -Pauls Boutique

4. Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand

5. The Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca

6. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
7. Madvillain - Madvillainy
8. Radiohead - The Bends
9. The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)
10. Fennesz - Endless Summer
I almost feel like I am disrespecting The Flaming Lips -The Soft Bulletin by not including it but the record has never even come close to be as awesome as it was that first listen through.
Loveless on the other hand makes me feel so fucking weird without fail every time I hear it. To me Loveless doesn’t seem human. In contrast, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is about as human as an album can get; Jeff Mangum seems like he musters up every bone in his body to produce an emotional masterwork and then collapses into obscurity after the album is over.
Animal Collective is more of a song band for me although I really enjoy listening to Strawberry Jam and Merriweather all the way through.
A year ago if you had told me a Beastie Boys album would be one of my top 5 favorite albums I would be like… “Nope”. Now I am all “Not nope”.
fav albums yo now you know
Dead Ghosts - That Old Feeling
Check out this localish (I live in Victoria, this band is from Vancouver so pretty neighbourly) band! Some good catchy lo-fi!
New Japandroids album is like this

but instead of a fist picture a nice glowing ball of happy celebration gobsmacking you in the feelings
I find it neat how a person can listen to a particular artist or album and strongly dislike it, then later on feel the inverse of negative towards it. I always hear people say how their favorite albums are ones they got off to a rocky start with but later on heard it in the right state of mind. I don’t know why it has happened to me, usually even if I don’t like a band or artist or album I can appreciate what they were going for so its not an intellectual accepting. After letting something digest I just become more partial to it. All my favorite artists/albums right now are actually the product of this. (Animal Collective,Loveless,In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, The Microphones)
This is why i’m a strong believer in albums because I let the artist introduce themselves to me, To put the songs they think I can latch onto easiest first. Maybe that isn’t always the case but to me it seems like it, 9 times out of 10 my favorite track is the opening track on an album. I also find it weird that scientists say we get most of our musical pleasure from guessing and knowing the notes and how the song plays out. I get the most pleasure out of being surprised for the first time. The Soft Bulletin has never even come close to as awesome as it was the first time.
Sorry for tricking you this is an aimless rant. No conclusion just musing on the brain’s relationship to music.

Time to listen to Loveless and In the Aeroplane over the Sea like every other night before I go to bed
Listened to a few tracks from John Mayer’s new album. Its so weird I use to love this guy about 2 or 3 years ago but now I can’t stand it. He is such a smart guy with the ability to do some amazing musical shit (the guitar playing in Neon, his live blues playing) but he keeps putting out these really generic, sappy, poppy lame as fuck albums. I dunno I just can’t imagine doing some of the things he can do then hearing his own recorded music and being like “yeah this is pretty good”.

Played a dope ass show on Sat with my band. Was fucking sweet. All the other bands had huge cabinets and amps and stacks everything and my band had our little amps so all the other bands were a little condescending “oh we are all much louder than you guys anyway” - HAHA fuck that shit we were the first band to play and we disrespectfully demolished everybody’s eardrums with sweet sweet melodies and great big walls of sound. Here is what it looked like..
Today I recorded a track. It was a brand new song and all day recording it we were disappointed. In order to salvage the track me and my partner in crime (follow him, trevorhastumblr) added some overdriven stuffs and made it all lo-fi. It completely worked too in a Guided By Voices type save I dunno why sometimes less clarity makes for a better track. Anyway we are just going to put it up as a single track so expect to see/mostlyhear it soon.
New Dirty Projectors - Swing Lo Magellan

This is the album cover. I like it. From the pictures of D-Lo working in his haunted house studio out in the woods to his description of what the music will be like as well as this album cover, I sort of have a guess of what the album will sound like.
Also the more you look at the guy in the middles stomach, the more tremendous you realize it is!
Today I decided Animal Collective was my favorite band…. a few minutes before they announced their new album in September!!!
Holy fuck the last half of this year is going to be the most absolutely bestest music year.
New:
Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors, Animal Collective! ( I call these the big three)
as well as Kanye West, Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti (with the follow up to Before Today) Daft Punk (possibly : l) Big Boi, My Bloody Valentine (they said something was coming soon, lol) The Walkmen, Flaming Lips (maybe)
So excited. Nothing that has come out this year has really blown me away, not because nothing incredible has come out, just nothing that really connected with me.
you heard the man!
(it’s going to be AMAZING—stay tuned for hella updates in the next few months)
XOXO
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH YESSSSSS
